He says, "There will be a handful of us gathered to read and remember Bill on that day. We will read Bill's poems, some of his essays, and remember, through his many words, the depth of his gift to all of us." I always tell my guys at the prison to "lower your standards and keep writing..." after Bill's example.

Author of over 50 books, Stafford was a lifetime pacifist and a conscientious objector in World War II when he began his habit of writing a poem before dawn everyday.
